During the assessment, a comprehensive medical history is collected. The evaluation then begins with an external examination, which includes a functional and biomechanical assessment of the back, external pelvis, hips, abdominal muscles, recruitment patterns, and breathing patterns. Following this, both the external and internal structures of the pelvis are assessed. Your therapist will evaluate muscle tone, muscle length, pain response, the ability of the pelvic muscles to contract and relax, the presence of any pelvic organ prolapse, and the motor strategies used.Pelvic health assessments are typically not painful, but certain structures or muscles may cause discomfort due to tightness or feedback from the brain (similar to pressing on a muscle knot). Continuous communication with your therapist is maintained to ensure your comfort throughout the assessment and treatment process. All pelvic health assessments and treatments are conducted in private rooms to ensure your privacy and comfort.
You can typically see your pelvic floor therapist about 6 weeks after childbirth.This allows your body sufficient time to heal before beginning therapy.However, consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice based on your recovery.
You can continue your pelvic floor physiotherapy during your period.It’s based on your and your therapist’s comfort.Internal assessments or treatments will only proceed with your consent.No need to cancel or reschedule.
You do need a doctor’s referral for an appointment.
